👋 Hello Nursing Community,

The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) continues to reshape nursing mobility in 2025—empowering RNs with one multistate license that works across most of the U.S. Here's the latest state-by-state update:

✅ What’s New in 2025

  • Pennsylvania will fully implement the NLC on July 7, 2025, allowing residents to obtain multistate licenses and practice across compact states.

  • Connecticut has enacted compact legislation, with implementation scheduled for October 1, 2025, pending final setup.

  • Massachusetts joined in late 2024 and is expected to complete implementation within 12 months, likely early 2026 .

  • Guam and U.S. Virgin Islands have enacted the NLC but are awaiting technical readiness (background checks, systems) before multistate licensing begins.

📌 Current Compact Landscape (June 2025)

  • 43 jurisdictions have enacted NLC

  • 38 states + some territories are fully active

  • 8 states + DC are non‑compact (incl. CA, IL, NY, OR, NV, AK, HI, MI, MN)

Recent additions mean only a few holdouts remain.

🔄 How Mobility Works – Updated Rules

  • The 60‑day relocation rule still applies: if you move between compact states, apply for a new multistate license in your new home state within 60 days.

  • Discipline is now shared inter-state via NURSYS: an infraction in one state triggers reporting and possible suspension across all compact states.

đŸ„ Why This Matters

For Nurses:

  • Hold one license to work in nearly all of the U.S.

  • Benefit from telehealth roles, travel assignments, and cross-state care.

For Employers:

  • Simplifies hiring across state borders

  • Eases staffing in rural or emergency locations

  • Enhances disaster response with mobile workforce

👂 What’s Next?

  • NY, IL, NV, HI, OR, MI, MN, AK remain non‑compact states

  • See increasing legislative activity in Illinois, Nevada, New York, Oregon & Hawaii, signaling potential future entries
