HR is lonely. It doesn’t have to be.
The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.
That’s what this newsletter delivers.

Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.
Despite being one of the most trusted professions in the U.S., nursing is still grappling with workforce inequities—particularly when it comes to pay. The latest 2025 data shows that not all nurses are compensated equally, with race and gender continuing to influence salaries across the board.

📊 The 2025 Reality: Pay Gaps in Nursing
Gender Gaps: Male RNs continue to out-earn female RNs by an average of $6,000 annually, even when accounting for experience and education.
Race & Ethnicity Gaps:
White RNs report the highest average annual salary at $88,000.
Black RNs report $81,000, a difference of nearly 8%.
Hispanic/Latino RNs report $79,500, and Asian RNs average $85,000, highlighting inconsistent equity.
Advanced Practice Roles: Pay gaps shrink somewhat among NPs and CRNAs, but disparities still exist.
🧠 Why These Gaps Persist
Leadership Access: Nurses of color remain underrepresented in leadership roles, which carry higher salaries.
Negotiation Gaps: Cultural and systemic barriers affect how often (and successfully) nurses negotiate pay.
Geographic & Institutional Bias: Hospitals in different regions show wide variations, often reinforcing inequities.
💡 What Can Be Done?
Transparent Pay Scales: Publicly posted salary ranges reduce disparities.
Mentorship & Leadership Programs: Elevating nurses of color into leadership closes the gap long-term.
Policy Advocacy: Push for federal and state equity audits to hold employers accountable.
Individual Action: Nurses should track benchmarks and advocate for equitable pay during contract renewals.
🗣️ Nurse Voices
“I only discovered I was underpaid when a new hire disclosed his salary. We had the same role—but a $7,000 difference.”
“Equity programs helped me move into management, but the gap is still real for many of my peers.”
🚀 Moving Forward Together
Equity in nursing pay isn’t just a workforce issue—it’s a justice issue. Closing these gaps means valuing every nurse equally, regardless of race or gender.
At America Needs Nurses, we believe transparency, advocacy, and action will move us closer to true workforce equity.
